Restorative justice and relationships!
Join Dr. Aundrea Smiley for EmpowerED Beginnings: From the Ground Up - Restorative Justice in Education as she explores the basics of the Foundations of Restorative Justice in Education (RJE) and delves into restorative justice practices for professional settings within the community and the classroom, including the importance of relationships in order to be able to establish basic and support desired academic/social learning outcomes. At the root of this session is the idea of knowing the needs of our students and colleagues and attending to them using RJE practices.
Dr. Aundrea Smiley is a career educator with over 17 years of experience in the field. She has a PhD in Higher Education Administration and K-12 Programs from Liberty University on the history of RJE and the school to prison pipeline. She has served as a K-12 classroom teacher, reading coach, and division level administrator, and she now serves as full time Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at Eastern Mennonite University, where she facilitates the Foundations of RJE course. Aundrea is also the founder of a full service literacy center through which she assists with implementation of RJE practices in school divisions and community organizations across the country. She believes in the principles of RJE as a way to ensure that we support and honor all humans.
