What Happens When the Money’s Gone?

We’ve had a nice run. Life’s been good for a long time. What we’ve called hardships past generations would have seen as mere blips on the radar. We’ve proven to ourselves that we can do whatever we want, that we’re not beholden to the conventions of the past, and that it’s all about us. Disruption success. Congratulations! The coin of the realm is literally cash. Every other measure of success has taken a back seat to the value of a dollar.

So what happens when the money’s gone?

Get ready to find out.

Literally, money is being taken away from us and the institutions on which this country was built, diverted to places unlikely to hand it back. We don’t have to wait to see what happens with the trillions in dollars in debt we’ve built up over the years or the eventual financial collapse that may come. Things are in motion.

Are we ready? It doesn’t matter. The days of affluence and taking it for granted are ending, and all the entitlement and business as usual that came with it. Pay attention.

What happens next? That’s up to us. If we are willing, we can make change for the better. Not out of self-interest, not going back, but for the future, relearning the values we lost chasing money.

This is our opportunity to make change. No, not with dollars. With hard work. With ideas. With relationships and community. There’s inertia born out of affluence and there’s transformation born out of necessity.

That’s where we are.

Where are you?
