Publishing the original work of Worthy Educators

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Why is The Worthy Educator getting into book publishing?
Our team members are all published authors, and we know how complicated, expensive and frustrating publishing original work has become. We are not doing this to make a cent off of the process. We simply want to provide a supportive, positive, polished and highly professional way for you to get your work into the hands of educators.

Who is The Worthy Educator audience?
The Worthy Educator is the home of mid-to-late career educators working to transform education and build legacies that serve a diverse, decentralized,
global society that is inclusive, equitable and open to all  people, where every child adapts, evolves, and contributes by solving problems and creating solutions that add value to a quickly-changing society.

What does a successful book proposal look like?

We seek manuscripts that showcase practitioners modeling and championing education transformation, reflecting a diversity of voice and thought that mirrors the rich tapestry of humanity and represents the full range of stakeholders in education. Successful submissions contain original content, reflect current trends and research, and provide energy and examples around the re-envisioning of education, the elevation of the profession and the amplification of educator voice. Topics rich for publication include leadership, teaching and learning, curriculum, assessment, educator agency and efficacy, stakeholder engagement, supporting special needs and marginalized populations, student and staff wellness, and teacher preparation and professional learning. We are glad to discuss new and different topics in addition to these areas of focus.

Do I retain the rights to my work?
Yes, you retain all your intellectual property rights.

Are there up front costs I pay out of pocket?
No, we cover any and all costs in getting your work to market.

What are my publishing format options?
We offer paperback and eBook publishing options. Hard cover options are also available, but may incur an additional materials cost.

What eBook format options are offered?

Kindle and Nook are the predominant formats offered, and free apps are available that make these versions readable on any device.

Where is my book published?
We get your book published online through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing and in bookstores everywhere through IngramSpark.

What is the editing process?

Your manuscript is reviewed by our team of editors, all of whom are educators and published authors themselves. They provide valuable feedback and recommendations for optimizing your work. You determine which, if any, of the recommendations you want to act on in revising and further developing your work.

How does the design and layout of my work happen?
You are invited to submit images and graphics to accompany your manuscript, as well as for your front and back book cover. Our team will suggest additional graphics and formatting for your consideration. You have the final say on all aspects of the process. Once approved, we send the final draft to a publishing layout expert who will prepare your book so that it is guaranteed to be accepted by Kindle Direct Publishing and IngramSpark.

How long does this entire process take?
Typically, it takes three months from the time you initially submit your manuscript to the time we submit your book to be published. You work with us through the entire process, and you have the final say in each step. The process may take longer as we work together to meet and exceed your expectations for your book.

How long does it take for my book to be available once it is submitted for publishing?
While this can vary depending on how high publishing demands are at Kindle Direct Publishing and IngramSpark, our experience is that it typically takes no more than a week for your book to be available online at Amazon and to brick-and-mortar booksellers.

Does The Worthy Educator help promote my book?
Yes, we promote the books we publish on The Worthy Educator and through our communications channels, and we offer marketing strategies to our authors to solicit reviews and ratings on Amazon. In turn, Amazon promotes books with sales and incentives as they receive reviews and ratings for specific titles. Beyond this, you are welcome to do additional promotions and use other third party marketing means to help you promote your work.

Who gets the revenue from sales of my book?
You receive 100% of the revenue from sales of your book. We direct deposit your funds electronically to the account you identify quarterly, semi-annually or annually, per your instructions.

What can I expect in terms of revenue from my book?
Publishing is not a reliable pathway to wealth. Unless you are on the New York Times best seller list, proceeds from publishing your work is a nice bonus but it is not significant enough to serve as a major source of income. No matter who you publish with, realistically see it as an excellent opportunity to promote your work, connect with likeminded educators, and enhance your professional reputation, but don't quit your day job!

Is there a formal agreement identifying all of this and protecting my interests?
Yes, once we accept your manuscript for publication, you will talk through the details with us and together we will sign a publishing agreement that clearly delineates the entire process.

How do I get started?
Submit your manuscript along with any supporting images, materials and resources using the submission portal below.
