Multilingual Learner Success
I’m excited to explore what we can do together! I would love to collaborate on supporting immigrant-origin and migrant students’ academic and language needs, supporting multilingual students and families seeking community engagement, partnering with historic sites and museums to engage and challenge students, exploring various perspectives to enhance understanding.
My extensive experience in public history and public education informs my work designing classroom instruction and creating innovative professional development offerings. Transitioning to K-12 Public Education showed me that the skills and competencies of the historian - inquiry, critical thinking, analysis and evaluation of data, and clear writing - support and enhance my work as an educator. Much of my work as a public educator focuses on at-risk students in Title I schools, immigrant-origin students, migrants, refugees and language learners.
As an historian and an educator, I support learners of all ages in classrooms and communities. My successes include creating collaborations between historical and cultural content and resources, and skills and competencies to create authentic learning. My students have produced award-winning products, and my work has been recognized by history and education organizations throughout my career. I have worked in schools that enroll students from the neighborhood, and from across the world with students representing dozens of languages and as many countries. My work to create equitable learning opportunities for marginalized populations leads me to focus on competency-based education, expanding my thinking on learning opportunities for students
