I don’t care who you are, where you come from, how you spend your money or what you believe. Let’s move together…forward.
Unity has always been our strength:
- E pluribus unum
- United we stand, divided we fall.
- A house divided against itself cannot stand.
- Either we hang together or we will surely hang separately.
Insert your platitude of preference here. Just so there’s clarity on this mandate:
We need each other. All of us.
There is no opposing faction. We are all one people. We have a common purpose. And as educators we prepare each next generation to pass it on.
So stop looking for differences. Stop listening to the special interests who benefit from keeping us divided.
Start looking for what we have in common:
These common bonds matter. Cherish them. Feed them. Find them in the faces of everyone you meet.
Wherever you travel, people are thoughtful and willing and good. Meet them where they are. Show them who you are, with openness and understanding. Don’t hold back. It’s the only way to come back from the ugly, fear-based, highly-polarized, ultra-politicized stare-down we are living.
This isn’t a game of chicken. It isn’t a game, period.
Stop chalking up winners and losers. It’s pointless keeping score. The quality of our life is all of our responsibility. To ourselves. To each other.
Think for yourself. Refuse to be manipulated. Find strength in our identity as one people.
Open doors.
Fill gaps.
Build bridges.
Let’s make this our number one resolution for 2025:
Together…Forward
