Ya Can't Hack That!

Marketers hit a goldmine when the notion of a “life hack” entered the cultural zeitgeist. They’ve groomed an entire generation of potential consumers expecting to find shortcuts to existence. Sure it started out in virtual worlds, but it’s pervaded every aspect of everyday life on every form of media pumping out messaging like:
Life is hard! You’re doing it wrong!
Start your own podcast and establish yourself as an expert!
They told me I couldn’t, so I decided to prove them wrong!
It’s not your fault! We’ll make the whole problem go away!
Get our technology solution and it will make you a huge success!
But that's not the way this works.
Nothing worthwhile is easy and nothing easy is worthwhile.
Read that again.
If you’re responding to this marketing culture of “tell me what I want to hear and I’ll give you my money” then you’re setting yourself up to settle...and you're supporting this hack-away-at-life culture.
If you’re okay with that, then this message is not for you.
Do the work like you’re hungry for it.
It’s not in the way of your success. It is the way.
Anyone promising you an escape is playing you for their hack.
There is no one else to protect you from whatever life throws at you.
There’s no one else who will do it the way you want it done.
You have to have enough confidence in yourself to believe you will be able to deal with whatever comes your way. Otherwise, you’re susceptible to every empty promise and the price tag that comes with it.

There is no easy way out.
The only way past our fears and doubts is to work through them. Our confidence, our success and our legacy wait at the other end.
And ya can’t hack that.
